I
always loved Pencak Silat. No doubt about that. The feeling that you can grow
your body and personality for the better. And the persistency needed to learn,
both the techniques and mentalities. That is what makes this sport worth the
effort. And all those, are also part of a message that I’ve been trying to pass
to all of my disciples. Considering my position now as a coach.
MP UNS
It
has been 4 months now, since me coaching MP at Solo. And I like it here.
MP Solo, especially UNS, has good environment, familiar culture, and of course, some feeling of
nostalgia. UNS was my first kolat. I learned my very first kuda-kuda
stance here. Hehehe. Because of that, I feel the need to to share my silat knowledge
back to MP UNS. To say thank you for what they gave me few years ago.
Now
I coach for 3-4 times a week at UNS. And 2 times a week for training myself at MP
Manahan (eventhough sometimes I coach here too). I’m quite happy with my
activities here. Hehe. It makes me feel useful for others who wants to practice
Merpati Putih. Especially at UNS. I know that they have potentials. They just
need motivation and guide to help them achieve a success. Both in the
individual person and the MP organization as a whole. But wait.. hmmm. Maybe this "success" can be started by defining the relationship between coaches and the disciples.
Roles and Relationship
Roles and Relationship
The
roles as a coach (at least for me) means that we have to guide and give good examples
to our disciples. That includes these roles; we become coach when they’re
training. We become guide when they’re confused. We become problem-solver when
they have problems that can’t be solved by themselves. This will make them have
a role model to look up to.
On the contrary, a disciple also have their own roles. Which are, always listen to their coach, eager to push themselves further, do every instructions with maximum effort (this will create best performance result). Then be patience when it comes to training progress and finally spread enthusiasm to others (especially their junior). And finally, both the coach and the disciples need to respect each other, have an open-mind, and always maintain good communications.
I sincerely hope that all these suggestions can be done. And can take us to accomplish something greater.
